You trust your doctor. You trust your hairdresser or barber. But unfortunately, many people don’t trust … their HVAC technician!

They are most known for the refrigerant “recharging” scam, where they tell you your air conditioner is low on refrigerant, and they are going to “recharge” it. However, as you might already know, if you were running low on refrigerant, that would indicate a leak that needs fixing! These scammers hope to find customers to trick with this scam once … then come back over and over again!
However, even if a so-called HVAC company doesn’t do anything this blatant, there are always better, honest companies … and less honest ones. So, how do you know if you can trust your HVAC technician and company.
1. They’re online
Like they say, “Everything is online these days!” That means every reputable HVAC company can be found online. Not only will they have their own website and social media pages, but they will also be listed on Google and have reviews.
2. They have rave reviews
Before you choose an HVAC company, take a look at those reviews, and make sure that service was completed successfully, at a reasonable price, by a kind and helpful technician. There’s no better sign that you can trust an HVAC company and its technicians than word-of-mouth from great reviews!
3. They take no for an answer
A good HVAC company trains its technicians that, even though they should be prepared to explain why a particular service or replacement is needed, the customer always has the last say. If your technician is pushy or asks for payment upfront, this is a sign of a scam and should never happen! Instead, a technician should be more than happy to let you shop around and get another quote or opinion.
